Dry Needling
Dry needling is a therapeutic technique used by our physiotherapists and other healthcare practitioners to relieve pain, improve muscle function, and enhance mobility. It involves inserting thin, sterile needles into specific trigger points or muscle knots to release tension and reduce muscle stiffness.
Dry needling is a popular method for treating conditions like chronic pain, sports injuries, and musculoskeletal disorders. By targeting tight or overactive muscles, this technique can help restore normal muscle function and promote faster recovery.
Unlike acupuncture, which is rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, dry needling is based on Western anatomical and physiological principles. It is often used in conjunction with other physical therapy techniques to maximize results.
Many patients report immediate relief after a session, with continued improvement over time. If you're experiencing muscle pain, stiffness, or limited mobility, dry needling could be a beneficial addition to your treatment plan.
How do we differ with dry needling?
At Green Physiotherapy, we approach dry needling with a focus on gentleness and patient comfort. For those new to the experience, we avoid using electrical stimulation through the needles to ensure a more gradual introduction. Additionally, if you're uncomfortable with muscle twitching, we respect that and refrain from engaging in such techniques.
We exclusively utilize "Sensei single-use needles," chosen for their sharpness, smoothness, and ease of entry into the body, which contributes to a painless experience. These needles have been personally tested by Alex the Physio, ensuring their efficacy and comfort.
Many of our patients, even those initially fearful of needles, have found dry needling to be effective and relatively discomfort-free, thanks to the skill of our practitioners and the quality of the needles we use.
